Gayan Chathuranga (Herath)

Gayan Chathuranga (Herath) is the Automation Engineer at Purple Engineering, the company behind Pipe Stand Australia. He builds and manages the systems behind sales, inventory, order management and reporting, so customers get quick answers and accurate information about their orders.

Since joining Purple in 2024, Gayan has built an automation ecosystem that processes incoming quote requests and emails and uses AI to extract and classify RFQ data. He led the rollout of a new inventory management system with real-time stock synchronisation to the website, which matters when a customer needs to know whether a set of pipe stands or turning rolls is on the shelf, and developed an order tracking platform that gives the team a single view of every order from quote to delivery.

His engineering tools include pressure-drop and freight calculators. Freight is a real part of the cost when pipe stands, turning rolls and positioners are heavy and are delivered Australia wide.

Gayan has more than four years of experience in software development, business process automation and system integration. He specialises in Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate and Copilot Studio), CRM and inventory automation, API integrations and custom web applications. Before Purple he worked at MiHCM, progressing from intern to Associate Software Engineer, and he holds a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (Hons) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
